2009 Kickoff to Men’s Health a Success
Arkansas Urology provides free prostate cancer screenings to nearly 200 men

LITTLE ROCK (Nov. 16, 2009) – To commemorate Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Arkansas Urology provided free prostate cancer screenings to nearly 200 men at the fifth annual Kickoff to Men’s Health on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Arkansas Urology’s Little Rock campus.
At this year’s event, 189 men were screened for prostate cancer. Of those, 13 were found to have elevated PSA test results and/or abnormal DREs, and 69 others tested positive for BPH (enlarged prostate that causes painful and annoying symptoms). Many of these men scheduled follow-up appointments with their family physicians.
“These results only strengthen Arkansas Urology’s resolve to continue to host a screening event that will have a positive impact on men’s health in central Arkansas,” said Dr. Keith Mooney, an Arkansas Urology physician. “These men are on their way to recovery because they made the time to attend our event to receive a potentially lifesaving preventive screening.”
Men who have never had a prostate screening and who met the following conditions were eligible to receive a free screening at the event:
• Men 50 and older
• Men 40 and older with a family history of prostate cancer
• Men 40 and older of African-American descent.
The Kickoff to Men’s Health was presented by Arkansas Urology and the St. Vincent Urology Center.
