LITTLE ROCK
In observance of National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Arkansas Urology provided free prostate screenings to nearly 100 men at the sixth annual Kickoff to Men’s Health on Saturday, Sept. 18, at Arkansas Urology’s Little Rock campus.
At this year’s event, 86 men were screened for prostate cancer. Of those, 11 were found to have elevated PSA test results and/or abnormal DREs, and 21 others tested positive for BPH (enlarged prostate that causes painful and annoying symptoms). Many of these men scheduled follow-up appointments with their primary-care physicians or urologists.
“In the past six years, Arkansas Urology has screened nearly 1,000 Arkansans during this event,” said Dr. Keith Mooney, president of Arkansas Urology. “That’s a significant number of men, which only strengthens our resolve to host a screening event that will have a positive impact on men’s health outcomes in central Arkansas.”
Men 40 and older who have never had a prostate screening were eligible to receive a free screening at the event, which was presented by Arkansas Urology and St. Vincent.
