More than 200 men receive free prostate screenings

2011 Kickoff to Men's HealthLITTLE ROCK (Sept. 27, 2011) – In observance of National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Arkansas Urology provided free prostate screenings to more than 200 men at the seventh annual Kickoff to Men’s Health at Arkansas Urology’s Little Rock campus.

At this year’s event, 225 men were screened for prostate cancer. Of those, 34 were found to have elevated PSA test results and/or abnormal DREs, and 92 others tested positive for BPH (enlarged prostate that causes painful and annoying symptoms). Many of these men have scheduled follow-up appointments with their primary-care physicians or urologists.

“In the past seven years, Arkansas Urology has screened more than 1,000 Arkansans during this event,” said Dr. Tim Langford, president of Arkansas Urology. “Our number one goal with this event is to continue to educate and have a positive impact on men’s health outcomes in central Arkansas.”

Men 40 and older who have never had a prostate screening were eligible to receive a free screening at the event, which was presented by Arkansas Urology and St. Vincent.
